DECAYED ROOTS
SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK ~ VIRGINIA

Gerry Hawkes points out that many roots were decayed on trees before they were toppled by Hurricane Fran. This tree had not been attacked by gypsy moths, yet many of the roots had died.
